Houseplant Resource Center Propagation Promoter is designed to support new growth, root development, and shoot development in young plants and newly propagated cuttings. It provides key growth-supporting ingredients that help improve nutrient availability while your cutting is establishing roots in water or soil.
Propagation Promoter is labeled as a root growth hormone propagation drop. It is different from traditional rooting hormone powders or gels that are applied directly to the cut end of a stem. Instead, Propagation Promoter is diluted in water and used as part of your propagation or transplant watering routine.
Yes. Propagation Promoter can be used for cuttings in water, for soil propagation, and with soilless growing mediums like LECA or pon.
For water propagation, add 5–10 drops, or ⅛ teaspoon or less, to every 16 oz of water used as a growing medium. Change the water solution regularly, about every 3 days.
For soil propagation, transplants, new soil growth, LECA, or pon, add 5–10 drops, or ⅛ teaspoon or less, to 16 oz of water and apply as part of your normal watering routine. For LECA or pon, use the diluted solution the same way you would use your normal water or reservoir solution, and refresh as needed to keep the setup clean.
Propagation Promoter is made for a wide variety of houseplants and is especially useful for cuttings, young plants, transplants, and newly propagated plants. It can be used with many common propagating houseplants, including pothos, philodendron, monstera, hoya, syngonium, tradescantia, rubber trees, ficus plants, and fiddle leaf figs.
For water propagation, change the water solution regularly, about every 3 days, and temporarily remove the cutting during water changes to help minimize the risk of stem rotting. For soil propagation, transplants, and new soil growth, use the diluted solution weekly with normal watering. As growth progresses, continue your regular fertilizing routine as appropriate for the plant.
The brown color is normal. Propagation Promoter contains kelp extract and humic acid from leonardite, which naturally give the liquid a darker color. A brown tint does not mean the product has gone bad.
Start with a healthy cutting and use clean scissors or pruning shears. Place the cutting in bright, indirect light and keep it in a warm, stable location away from cold drafts. For water propagation, use a clean container, keep leaves above the water line, change the water solution regularly, and remove the cutting temporarily during water changes. For soil propagation, keep the soil lightly moist but not soggy.
When used as directed, Propagation Promoter is designed to support cuttings, young plants, transplants, and newly propagated houseplants. Do not over-concentrate the solution; use 5–10 drops, or ⅛ teaspoon or less, per 16 oz of water. Propagation success still depends on the plant type, cutting health, light, temperature, water quality, and overall propagation conditions.
